What makes the drive worth taking is whether you can still be in the week. Families may visit at any time and sign in and out, so a stop does not have to land inside a narrow visiting window. Kayla Turner, Executive Director, meets the resident and family before move-in. Each resident has a written care plan started at move-in, completed within 14 days, and reviewed every 90 days and after a change such as a fall, a hospital stay, or a behavior change. Families are part of those reviews. Updates go to families at least monthly, and the home calls right away for a fall, illness, hospitalization, or change in condition.
The community has 46 licensed beds across 38 private and shared suites. Step-free, ground-level entrances to both floors. Help with daily activities, medication administration by Georgia-certified medication aides, and supervision for memory loss are the core of the day, for adults who do not need 24-hour skilled nursing. A visiting registered nurse supports care. Smyrna Village cannot admit anyone who needs 24-hour skilled nursing, a ventilator, IV therapy, or tube feeding, or who shows active physical aggression.
If you are not ready to decide on a long stay, short-stay respite uses the same admission criteria. It is for memory care and personal care guests. On a tour, ask to see a suite, the kitchen where meals are cooked on site, and how an afternoon of activities is actually run. About two hours of structured activities happen every day, weekends included, plus small-group time. Music, including music therapy sessions, is part of that mix, along with art, Montessori tasks, and a monthly outing toward the Village Green, the Smyrna History Museum, or Durham Park.
